Questions about lakeside and river wedding venues in Queenstown

Can we marry at a public lakeside reserve?

Queenstown Lakes District Council permits ceremonies at some reserves, including St Omer Park on the Queenstown lakefront and Lake Hayes Reserve, for up to 30 guests and 2 hours. The reception must be held at a private venue (QLDC guidelines, September 2025).

What if it rains on the day?

QLDC advises booking a back-up wet-weather venue for outdoor ceremonies in parks. Ask private venues about their wet-weather option, and name your back-up venue on the marriage licence application (govt.nz).
